About Us

A Quick Summary Bulletin #1

Analytical Chemists, Inc is a laboratory located in San Diego, California.  We are charter members of CAPT, and are performance tested quarterly.  Our primary interest is technical support for recreational dive centers and divers, but our world-wide clients include all operations involving compressed gases: sport, commercial, fire departments, military organizations (Navy SEALS, Special Forces,  Nuclear submarines and shipyards on both coasts), hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and general manufacturers.  If you need to have air or nearly any other compressed gas tested, we can support you with sampling equipment, analysis and interpretation no matter where you are in the world.

Diving: What Makes Us Unique- The U.S. Navy

·    25 years of constant personal contact with Navy and Marine Divers at every level: Saturation, Salvage, Naval Shipyards, Navy Diving Schools, EOD units, SEAL teams, Submarines, and the Deep Submergence Unit.  With several Navy bases only minutes away, we have been able to personally sample nearly every type of air system that the US Navy deploys.  We have even sampled open dive bells at 50 ft underwater.

Air Sampling:  Extraordinary Sampling Kits

·    Our simple - user friendly - air sampling kits (US Patent 5,101,671 & others Pending) are unique, and are the only technically correct sampling kits available in the US and Canada.  Air samples taken in our DOT/IATA compliant canisters can be sent anywhere in the world, and analyzed by nearly any air testing lab in the world. You are not a slave to one lab.  No other sampling kit has that particular capability.

1.      Our New Universal Air Sampling Kit allows one person to take up to 6 samples of any air system (LP, HP, Low Flow, and High Flow systems) in nearly any situation without preplanning anywhere in the world.  It has built-in features that simultaneous measure moisture while capturing  Oil Mist + Particulate, as well as a bulk air sample for lab analysis.  We use our own purgeable canisters that hold 300 cc each to allow multiple tests. (We do not use small glass vials.)  The kit comes with a wide variety of fittings to easily connect to nearly any air system. The kit can be purchased or rented.  Clients that request this kit require the maximum sampling capability with strong laboratory support.  It is the favorite for contractors and the military.

2.      Our smaller Dedicated Sport/Fire Department Air Sampling Kit is a light-weight, compact design..  It can pull two samples from LP and/or HP air systems.  It comes with adapters for  SCUBA or SCBA charging whips, but can have a wide variety of adapters if specifically requested.  This kit is used by clients that range from individual diving contractors in Alaska, to recreational dive centers from Japan to Key West.

3.      Our Instant Air Analysis kit is unique.  It is designed for clients that are either too distant to utilize our normal Quarterly Air Monitoring program, or simply need to test an air system more often  than quarterly.   This new compact kit combines routine on-site testing (Drager Color Indicator tubes and Particulate checks) with full technical support via email and telephone, plus an optional annual laboratory analysis report of the air.  This kit is for purchase only, but is custom made for each client. It has all the capability of the Universal Kit above, without loosing close technical support.  (See also Color Indicator Tubes and Instant Analysis Kits.)

Laboratory Support Analysis

·    Our analytical methods utilize GCMS and GC/FID/TCD/HID and Infrared Absorption.  These methods are built upon our own research to meet the criteria of standard CGA and NFPA specifications as well as more complex projects requiring parts per billion sensitivities for very deep diving, submarine modifications and special off gassing tests.  Our protocols are driven by a QA program that goes far beyond the requirements of  NAVSEA, OSHA, PADI and the CGA.  Indeed, many of the parts of the current U.S. Navy Diver’s Air program for sampling and analysis since 1993 were based on our protocols.

Custom Programs:

·        There are many specifications and unique situations that contractors and maintenance facilities have to deal with.  Our familiarity with a broad range of test criteria make it possible for us to develop an appropriate custom sampling and analysis program for nearly any application.  A few examples:

1.      Pharmaceutical companies check their air for moisture, particulate and ultra-trace levels of any oil (0.005 mg/m3 ).

2.      Off-gas analyses for military contractors and chamber activities.

3.      Industrial gas purity checks for trace levels of gases in: argon, oxygen, nitrogen, helium and hydrogen.

4.      Helium leak checks for space vehicle fabrication.

5.      Determination of cleanliness checks for oxygen systems per Mil-std-1330D.

6.   Diver accident investigation (analysis of air for contamination).

7.   Nuclear Power plant emergency breathing air testing on site.

Service

·   We FAX all reports the same day they are complete (24 hours for simple tests like CGA –E & D, and  NFPA 1989).  More sophisticated tests such as BB-A-1034 and Tables F3 & F4 in SS800-AG-MAN-010/P9290A -  take a few days longer..   The formal reports are sent by ordinary surface mail but we can also email the report to you.  There is no extra charge for email or FAX reports.
